Something that has very slowly dawned on me, very small spey rods are here and soon will be impossible to live without. It was not that many years ago that I would tell clients if they could not make a 60 ft roll cast with their one hander, there were a lot of places we just couldn’t fish. Crystal clear low summer flows made big spey lines too noisy, and too likely to break thin tippets. High brushy overgrown banks, no where to wade and the necessity to make long quiet and accurate casts created environments where lots of steelhead were safe from all but the best anglers.
Enter about a zillion well made 5 and six weight spey rods and some excellent new lines and with a little practice these fish are safe from no one.
In the next few entries and will give a quick run down of some of these rods.
In the mean time, yep catchin steelhead, catchin some summer coho, catchin some nice trout, not seeing any other anglers…same old shit.
Rock on

When you put your shoulder to the wheel and nose to the grindstone you end up with a rounded shoulder and a pointy nose...Hope all is well with you.
